Curl Junkie Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner

From the moment you open the cap this cleanser will seduce you with all its properties! It smells excellent and fresh--minty and appealing. It is super thick and has a very smooth consistency--so you add some to your hand and then add a bit of water to distribute. You control how much you use--no worries about this cleanser slipping through your fingers!
Immediately upon first touch to your scalp you can feel just a slight cleanser working and its very soothing. It doesn't clean with tons of suds--rather it REALLY gentle cleanses and leaves your hair as if you'd both conditioned it AND shampoo'd it. I can use it without needing another rinse out! An all in one!
Because it is concentrated I don't have to use as much--and that gives me value for my money. The fact that it doubles as a conditioner also makes my pocketbook happy.
No stripping, no too clean squeaky feeling, nothing but wonderfully conditioned hair and scalp. A bonus for me is it helps with the little bumps I get when I use clips (allergy to nickel) and it really seemed to calm my scalp down as its normally a bit itchier than average.
I LOVE this product. I think any curly girl/guy who wants to cowash only or would like to alternate a low poo with a conditioner wash owes it to him/herself to check this one out. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
How do you think it compares to the Hairveda Amala Creme Rinse? I've been using this and am really happy with it. However, I'm really wanting the new Curl Junkie cleanser now after reading all the reviews.

I think both are excellent but honestly this one (Curl Junkie) performs better for me. As I understand it there is a chelating agent high up on the ingredients (Tetrasodium EDTA) which will help those of us who have hard water and face mineral deposits building up on our hair. I think, in terms of cleansing, the CJ does a better job. The Amala Cream Rinse does a good job and leaves my hair feeling very good but, for instance, if I did a pre-poo with oil or used too many polyquat's the Amala will not get everything out. So far the CJ has gotten everything out.
ReplyDeleteI am actually a low poo'er but I would (and am) considering switching to co-wash only with this conditioner. I really think it is that good. IMHO it is the best product she has.
I also liked the Komaza Almond Cleansing Milk (did not review it because it was discontinued!) but this is leaps and bounds over that for cleaning. I loved the Komaza smell though!

ReplyDeleteYour reviews are so good because you offer information about ingredients, make comparisons to other well known products, and give lots of details about what the product does and does not do. It is also very interesting to see pictures of how your hair responded with the various products. Nice job!
So, do you consider the Hairveda Creme Rinse a low poo or co-wash?

I consider it a co-wash. I do not think it has enough in it to consider it a low poo. Usually a low poo has an ingredient that is a real cleanser without necessarily being a conditioning agent. Like Cocamidopropyl Betaine or Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate or a glucoside of some sort (Sweet Nature by Eddie uses Decyl Glucoside. For me these seem to clean. I think the reason HV Amala seems to me more of a co-wash less of a shampoo is that it's primary ingredients are castor oil and Cetearyl Alcohol which is really an emollient or emulsifying wax. While the Amala Cream rinse has lemon and orange oil it does lack more heavy duty "cleansers" higher up on the ingredients list. IMHO that makes it more of a co-wash..recognizing it has Stearalkonium (sp?) chloride which also functions as a surfactant.
ReplyDeleteBasically I guess what I'm saying is that the Amala does a nice (very nice) job as a co-wash...but as a real low-poo for me not so much. It may actually exist in an in between land.
In any case the Curl Fix Cleansing conditioner is a completely different product. The consistency, texture, and feel of it are actually much higher quality--you would expect this as a comparison of the ingredient list shows quite a difference.
If I were to classify I would consider the Hairveda Amala Cream Rinse, Shampoo, Moist Condition and Moist Condition Pro as kind of the everyman's products. A great value for your money and they work very well. However to compare to Curl Junkie is hard. It is like comparing a Herbal Essences product to a Matrix or Redken product. Many believe that the higher end products are actually the "better" products. I'm not so sure but I will say that I have sometimes found some differences.
I've gone back and revised my Hairveda review for the Amala based on my most recent experiences. I think now it actually better reflects the way I use this and see this.
